Hip Scores

Hip Scores - Rottweilers

In their younger years, dogs are more resilient and poor hips will not necessarily present problems of mobility. This problem is particularly prevalent in large dog breeds including the Rottweiler.

As your dog ages, poor hips can prevent your dog from walking and may bring about the need for you to put your dog to sleep at a time in their life when they provide the most companionship and loyalty.

Registered breeders of Rottweilers are not permitted to breed dogs where the combined hip scores of the proposed parents will be greater than 20. By abiding by this rule, registered breeders will minimise the risk of causing genetic problems such as hip displasia and will ensure that all steps possible have been taken to prevent problems for you and you dog later on.

We are in the process of putting details of hip scores on this web site for people to see. Where these details are not present, they will be on the web site soon.
